'Annoying Music' for the Holidays
From the Annoying Music Guy, a Howling 'O Holy Night' and More
This was broadcast on NPR in 2002. The music will make you ... well ... I'll leave it to you.

My ginko bag is being shipped to me today.
Also, I am wearing a glitter bobby pin today, like these, but on a bobby pin. I got it at the Urban Craft Uprising show.
A few people recently have asked me if I'm ready for Christmas. I have been saying, "Sure!" They don't really know what to say to that, and then I explain I don't celebrate Christmas. I was talking to my dad about it, and he says when people ask him he just says yes. I don't like people making assumptions, but I don't want them to feel like an asshole for just being friendly, either. I'm rethinking my answer. And actually, I'm not ready - I need to figure out where I'm eating dinner, and also if I should buy my movie tickets in advance or not :P.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
jillbertini sent to me...
Twelve queers drumming
Eleven taxonomies reading
Ten chimeras a-traveling
Nine bodhisattvas quitting
Eight librarians a-laughing
Seven ontologies a-voting
Six intersections everything
Five li-i-i-iminal spaces
Four venn diagrams
Three identical twins
Two setting boundaries
...and a genderqueer in an anarchy.

Trapped in the CLAUSet - a YouTube take-off on the R. Kelly song. In three parts. Hilarious.
I was talking with some friends the other night about my favorite Christmas songs. Yeah, shut up. I know, I hate Christmas - but really, it's the commercialization of the whole thing, the forced cheerfulness, the co-opting of the color red, and the elevating of Hannukah that are the problems for me. There is a lot of music that I love, and that means some of them are Christams songs.
Here was the list I came up with:
The Chanukah Song - Adam Sandler
Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt
Christmas in the Trenches - John McCutcheon
Christmas Island - The Andrews Sisters
Melekalikimaka
You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch - with Boris Karloff
Silent Night (traditional)
The Cavalry song that I can't think of who sings it or what the real damn title is right now

I posted this last year. I have to say, it's two weeks later and my mood is MUCH better than when I wrote that. Maybe it's the light therapy. Also, I have managed to avoid commercial spaces and haven't listened to the radio much. Wow. I am ready for the onslaught to begin.
Officially. I am listening to a local radio station, and they just put on that cavalry song - "Stop the Cavalry" by The Cory Band. That to me is the signifier of the Christmas holiday starting.
Note to self: I am now in a foreign country until December 26th.
